The UK Home Office has fully transitioned to a digital “e-visa” system, replacing physical Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs). The move aims to streamline immigration processes and reduce fraud.
How It Works:
Migrants access visa status via the UKVI Online Account, linked to their passport.
Employers/landlords verify status using a “share code” valid for 90 days.
Physical BRPs expire December 31, 2024; all migrants must create digital accounts by then.
Benefits & Concerns:
Pro: Faster updates (e.g., address changes) and reduced risk of document loss.
Con: Digital exclusion for elderly or low-tech users.
Data:
3.4 million BRP holders must switch to e-visas by 2025 (Home Office).
Steps to Comply:
Create a UKVI Account.
Link passport and BRP before December 2024.
